Booking the ringing centre for your own group

Are you considering bringing a group to Tulloch Ringing Centre but don’t know how to start? Let me help

We have 2 peals of bells and 2 simulators. All the bells and simulators can be rung concurrently & independently with no interference between them

When do you want to come?

The Ringing Centre availability can be viewed HERE

There is no charge for use of the Ringing Centre but we would very much appreciate a donation at your discretion

We would be delighted if you wanted all the on-farm accommodation but the only accommodation that you MUST book is the accommodation within the ringing centre itself ie The Steading Room, The Belfry Room and The Lookout Flat. This is a requirement to having the Ringing Centre for an extended period as the general public staying in The Belfry Room/Steading Room/Lookout Flat would be greatly inconvenienced by midnight peals or poker in the common room at 2am!

All of the on-farm accommodation can be viewed at tullochfarm.co.uk. It can be booked for Saturday to Saturday except for the Lodge which is generally Friday to Friday but if you have the whole Farm Sat – Sat it MAY be possible to retain The Lodge until the Saturday morning also (tbc)

Note – the weekly price for both the Woodland Cabins and the Shepherd Huts are HALF of what the 7x nightly charge would be

We have just started https://www.tullochaire.com/ so can offer pitches for campervans, water, grey water disposal, no hook-ups yet

Once you email me that you are considering bringing a group then I will pencil you in for the accommodation also and then you have a month to firm up how many beds you actually want

Accommodation WITHIN the Ringing Centre = Belfry room & Steading room each have a king size bed, adult bunks, kitchenette (all in 1 room) and a shower room. The Lookout flat has a king size bed, shower room, kitchen/diner. All of these must be booked if you want the Ringing Centre for anything other than a mid-day qtr peal, tower grab or peal

Accommodation on the farm = Retreat, Strath, & Rannoch are all 2 bedrooms – a king & a twin. In the Retreat both bedrooms are ensuite. Strath & Rannoch each have 1 family shower room. Gun Club has a king bedroom, shower room, kitchen/diner. 3 x Woodland Cabins have one room with a king size bed & kitchen/diner , and ensuite shower room . 3 x Shepherd Huts are slightly smaller = one room double bed with kitchenette and ensuite shower room. The

Lodge sleeps 4, 6 or 8 depending on ££

Catering for your group

The ringing centre includes a kitchen, small dining room and common room with log stove & 2 toilets.

Different groups cater differently. The Cumberlands come every year and eat communally in the ringing centre every evening (baked potatoes, sausages & beans. They also bring ready prepared casseroles). The Reading Ringers create a truly magnificent ploughman’s lunch every day (soup, pizza, vacuum packed rolls are baked and then filled with cheese & ham & coleslaw, egg mayo etc ) & then folk eat each in their own accommodations every evening, During the annual Improvers week the tutors and students go out for a ‘celebratory’ dinner at a local restaurant on their last evening. Frequently the residents of the larger cottages offer to cater suppers for the folk residing in the Shepherd Huts. No-one is ever hungry!

How many ringers should we bring?

For the 2 weeks of the annual Reading & Channel islands non-stop ringing in Tulloch:https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/event.php?id=19747 week 1 had 33 ringers – pretty much full on in both towers – every minute was qtrs/peals/practices

Week 2 had just 15 attendees, so a much slower pace – more gaps in the programme for sightseeing & dog walking

The Tulloch Improvers Week with a much lower ‘grade’ of ringing – 12 novices and a whopping 17 helpers

Numbers depend on what you are looking to achieve – peals of maximus or qtrs of bob major, a theory session on stedman , how to call a qtr of bob doubles……..the simulators are a great way to fill in some time (run a striking competition between the attendees:-)

How to allocate the accommodation put friends together, ask for volunteers to share – I always have a spreadsheet with a list of accommodations and as folk confirm attendance I allocate them a bed. Obviously last minute swaps are possible if a better ‘fit’ for sharing an accommodation comes along

Dogs very welcome – £20 per pet

The riverside walks and playbarn provide excellent amusements for non-ringers
